A new chapter opens

May 9th 2021

Wirral Home Guard Re-enactors Group "D" Company 21st Bat Cheshire Regiment, (Eastham)  are delighted and excited to announce that agreement has been reached with The Hooton Park Trust for our organization to take up permanent residency at the historic WW1 & II Air Base on the banks of the Mersey

The Trust is responsible for the ongoing development of this superb listed site as the premier historical venue in Wirral, charting the history of the "Park" site from its inception as the home of the renowned Stanley family, a one time Racecourse, and its time as Liverpool's first airport and role in both world wars.

The site consists of an array of listed buildings including hangars, bomb shelters and houses many artefacts relevant to its history.

Our own group consists of 30 + members, many of who are in support roles, and an active core of 10 + enthusiastic re-enactors who form the 21st century reincarnation of Eastham Home Guard, and who will carry out all the duties and activities appropriate to that role on the base in pursuance of the trusts ambition to both educate, engage and entertain visitors.

As part of our group's activities, we will be working with the trust in specific area, particularly relating to the WW II element of the Park's history, which role will include such attractions as the "Air Raid Experience" which brings to life what it was like to have been in an actual air raid.

Our group will also be staging a permanent exhibition covering "Home Front" activities, and visitors will be able to visit a small WWII Grocers shop, Cpt Mainwaring's Office and ARP wardens office and a children's evacuation display and a WVS station.

Our group is dedicated to historical accuracy in all we do, and we have a wealth of knowledge amongst our members. You will see us training, stripping our rifles, being given lectures, being on guard duty and drilling.

CH21 Training Day

9th May 2021

We are very much looking forward to hosting NK13 Home Guard in the Autumn, who will be travelling up from Norfolk to knock us into shape on a training weekend.

We are especially pleased that they will be our guests at our new permanent home -  the Hooton Park Air Base, which by then we hope to have settled into.

Such a venue is entirely appropriate and will give an incredible sense of realism, especially staying overnight
